We are now at Exhibit No. 8. The eighth exhibit has five images, including: the Bodhisattva Maitreya, the Bodhisattva Guanyin, and Shakyamuni Buddha. Shakyamuni Buddha is positioned in the centre, with a boat-shaped aureole and rays of light shining behind him. He is surrounded by clouds and a variety of interweaving tree branches. His coiled topknot resembles a pagoda, his hands are resting on top of his alms bowl, and his legs are in full lotus position. Venerable Śāriputra and Mahāmaudgalyāyana are standing on each side, with their hands in Añjali Mudrā, looking calm and peaceful. In this display, Shakyamuni Buddha and the Bodhisattva Maitreya both have rays of light shining behind them. This relates to the Thirty-Two Marks of A Buddha, which state that at all times, there is a golden light around The Buddha’s body with a radius of 3.3 metres. The golden light represents the Bodhichitta, diligence, faith, and goodness of The Buddha.
